Job opportunities in the USA for Brazilian professionals

Written by: D4U Immigration

Many people already know that the United States of America is one of their favorite countries to live or invest in, as around 1.8 million Brazilians already make the North American country their home. The USA is the first country with the most Brazilians abroad, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairsand a large part of this number has immigrated attracted by a professional opportunity, given the need for qualified professionals in various fields. The unemployment rate in the US stands at 3.6%, according to the Labor Department in a report released. At the end of 2022, there were 11 million jobs available in the US. “To make up for this huge shortage of professionals, US companies are increasingly receptive to talent from other countries, including Brazil,” says Carolina Leitão, partner at International Career Transition (ICT) and director of business development at Kinp Groupconsultancies specializing in international careers for Brazilian professionals abroad. According to the expert, Brazilian professionals are just as qualified as American professionals, making them extremely competitive when looking for an opportunity in the US. “Brazilian professionals already have the advantage of speaking another language, they have a greater number of academic qualifications than Americans, they have more cultural knowledge and more ‘flexibility’, because in Brazil they generally work with far fewer resources, and with this they have more problem-solving skills,” she concludes. Talent selection in American companies has some peculiarities, although it takes place in several stages, just like in Brazil. “The selection process is quite similar: applying for vacancies, interviews, assessing behavior and skills until the job offer is made. But the main difference is the culture. In the US, interviews are more objective, with a punctual start and finish time, questions focused on the candidate’s career results and professional and technical skills. There are no personal questions like in Brazil, where interviewers generally like to know marital status, if you have children, age, etc. The same reasoning applies to the “Resume”, which doesn’t need to include any personal information, which is common in Brazil,” explains the recruitment and selection specialist. With regard to the bureaucracy involved in actually moving to another country, professionals who want an opportunity in the US don’t need to have a formal job offer to immigrate, as their area of work may be related to a relevant activity for the US government. To cater for this type of professional, there is the possibility of immigrating via the EB2-NIW visa, which is granted to professionals with exceptional skills, i.e. a solid academic background and proven professional experience. The acronym NIW stands for National Interest Waiver and allows the worker to fit into the visa category for professionals who are of national interest, those who work in areas with a shortage of qualified labor. To avoid having EB-2 NIW visa refused it is worth hiring a specialized immigration consultant to fill in the documentation and prerequisites correctly.

Up-and-coming professions and immigration visas

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, job openings in the U.S. in the areas of health, technology (learn more about IT professionals in the USA), engineering, aviation and law are the most in demand and, consequently, offer the most attractive salaries. Nurses anesthesiologists and doctors, for example, can earn average annual salaries of 195 thousand dollars and 208 thousand dollars, respectively, while lawyers and aircraft pilots can earn annual salaries in the range of 127 thousand dollars and 202 thousand dollars. In some cases, however, it is necessary to be aware of the need to validate or revalidate diplomas. Another opportunity besides work is investment, as determined by the EB-5 visa requirements. Check out the most recommended types of American visas here. Wagner Pontes, founder of D4U Immigration, a firm specializing in immigration to the USA and Europe, explains that in order to meet the EB2-NIW application requirements, at least three of the seven criteria required by the US immigration department must be met. “Once the eligibility conditions have been met and the national interest (NIW) has been demonstrated, the professional takes on the great differential and dispenses with the need for a job offer from an American employer. With this type of visa, they can immigrate to the country before being hired by a company, which can make it easier for them to be hired because they are already in the US,” says the executive, who has been offering clients the possibility of relying on the services of headhunters free of charge since 2020.
