EB2-NIW HAS BEEN APPROVED! WHAT NOW?
My EB2 has been approved! What are the next steps to get to the Green Card?
The EB2 is an immigrant visa that leads to a Green Card and is valid for ten years. There are two ways to apply for this immigration petition: consular processing and adjustment of status.
In consular processing, the applicant waits for the result of their immigration petition for the USA in their home country. After the EB2 approval, it is necessary to wait a period of 30 to 60 days for the visa transfer from USCIS to the National Visa Center, process the immigrant visa, enter the USA, and pay some fees. In some cases, a final interview with a consular officer is still required. If the applicant is in Brazil, the interview will be held in Rio de Janeiro. After all these steps, they finally receive the Green Card, which arrives by mail.
In adjustment of status, the applicant is already in the USA with a certain type of visa and wishes to change their status to one of the immigrant categories, meaning they want to become a legal permanent resident. In this model, they can apply after a certain period in the country and may be eligible for a valid work authorization while the adjustment of status is pending. If the decision is favorable, the immigrant only needs to wait for the Green Card processing time.
In the podcast “My EB2 has been approved! What now?”, Wagner Pontes, founder of D4U, Amanda Hansen, head of the post-protocol department, and Paula Kasparian, communication director, discuss the steps to obtain the Green Card after EB2 approval.
In the video, Amanda Hansen talks about the post-protocol department at D4U. She leads a specialized team ready to assist clients and addresses the main questions related to the period for receiving the provisional work permit in the USA (combo card), whether it’s possible to expedite the process, and if a certain action will interfere with the petition.
Amanda also explains how to apply for American citizenship. After five years with the Green Card, the immigrant can apply to naturalize.
