The Market for Nurses in the United States

The nursing market in the United States is experiencing a significant increase in demand for qualified professionals.

This is due to several factors, such as the aging of the population, the increase in chronic diseases and the growing need for specialized health care. In addition, many nurses are retiring, which contributes to the reduction of professionals in the field. In the midst of this reality, the United States is looking for nurses from other countries to fill the existing gap.

Hiring foreign nurses offers benefits to both professionals and the American health care system. Foreign nurses have the opportunity to work in an advanced environment, be better compensated, and gain new skills and experiences, while the US benefits from its experience and cultural diversity.

About the EB2-NIW Visa

Professionals who wish to obtain the Green Card for nurses and work in the United States have several options available, depending on their wishes and professional goals. Among them are the H-1B visa, for protected temporary workers, and the TN visa, for professionals from Canada and Mexico.

However, when it comes to obtaining a permanent residence (also known as a Green Card), the EB2-NIW (National Interest Waiver) visa is considered one of the best options.

The EB2-NIW visa is part of the Employment-Based Second Preference (EB2) visa category and allows professionals with advanced skills and good academic records to apply for permanent residency without the need for an American job offer.

Compared to other visa categories for US employment, the EB2-NIW stands out for eliminating the need to go through the lengthy and bureaucratic labor process, and for having a shorter wait time until qualification.

In addition, professionals who earn the Green Card for Nurses through the EB2-NIW visa have greater flexibility in choosing employers and changing jobs, as they are not tied to a specific employer. Another advantage is that visa holders' relatives and children under the age of 21 can also obtain permanent residency, allowing the entire family to live and work in the US.

EB-2 NIW Visa Application Process

To qualify for the EB2-NIW visa and be more likely to earn the Green Card for Nurses, applicants must demonstrate that their work is in the national interest of the United States.

This can be done by showing that your work in the field of nursing has a significant impact on public health, advancing medical research or improving access to health care for the underprivileged, for example.

Below is how the application process works to receive the Green Card for Nurses with the EB2-NIW:

Qualifications and requirements for healthcare professionals

An EB2-NIW Nurse Visa applicant must possess a higher undergraduate degree (Bachelor's degree) + 5 years experience or technical course certificate + 10 years experience or an academic degree higher than a bachelor's degree such as a master's, doctoral and PHD .

If the person does not have the above diplomas, they may still be eligible for a nurse visa in the USA through three criteria from a list of seven:

Official academic record showing that you hold a similar certified degree from a related college, university, school, or other educational institution;
Letters from current and/or previous employers documenting at least 5 years of full-time experience in your occupation (when the degree is a bachelor's degree and 10 years when it is a technical degree);
A license to practice your profession or certification for your profession or occupation;
Evidence that you received an above-average salary for your field or other remuneration for services that demonstrates your exceptional ability;
Membership of a professional association(s);
Recognition for your achievements and significant contributions to your industry or field by your peers, government entities, professional or business organizations;
Other comparable evidence of eligibility is also acceptable.
